What's up beautiful people, and welcome back to another Word Up Wednesday blog! Your mid-week dose of inspo!
Spectator: What is it now, Paris?
Paris: Really!? You want to start already? SMH.

Today, I want to delve into "The Power of a Name". The names we choose for ourselves carry significant weight. Consider this: God changed Abram's name (meaning exalted father) to Abraham (meaning father of nations) and Sarai (meaning my princess, implying possession by another) to "Sarah" (meaning Princess, noblewoman). This change was a definitive act to establish her status among her contemporaries and to lay the groundwork for the future descendants of God.
Spectator: ......Names Paris? You are talking about names?
Paris: Yes! Names are important. Just read me out.
Consider the esteemed prophet of Israel, "Samuel," who was nurtured by God. His name signifies "God has heard," as he was born to a woman who fervently prayed for offspring due to her barrenness. When Israel no longer wished for the Most High to be their ruler, God selected "Saul" as king, a name meaning "prayed for." This serves as a reminder to "be careful what you pray for" (lol). If you're unfamiliar with Saul's story, reading 1st Samuel will clarify everything.
Nonetheless, all of this is to say that our Father in heaven values a good name because the words we speak ultimately become us. They shape our realities, emotions, actions and relationships.
Spectator: mmmm...food for thought.
Interestingly, my mom named me "Paris Shardey" with the intention of giving me a stage name. Since I was 11, I've pursued a career on stage, but until recently, I avoided that name, even disliking it. I've attempted to create numerous identities, none of which truly fit. It wasn't until Abai, my husband, suggested, "You should just go by Paris Shardey," that I reconsidered. I must admit, it is visually appealing and unique in its own way. However, embracing the identity I was given at birth has brought challenges, discomfort, and a sense of detachment. Yet, that's the beauty of stepping into the identity God has planned for you. It's a journey, a calling, a process of becoming.
I imagine that when Abram began having people call him "Abraham," it must have felt quite strange at first. I'm sure it didn't feel completely natural initially, but he believed in the identity God had given him. Over time, he truly became the Father of nations both on earth and in heaven. As for Sarah, I wonder about the challenges she encountered as God shaped her into a leader and role model.
And how about you dear reader? What is the name God calls you? Who are you called to be and how has the journey of becoming been treating you? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.
"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you [and approved of you as My chosen instrument], And before you were born I consecrated you [to Myself as My own]; I have appointed you as a prophet to the nations." - Jeremiah 1:5
Have faith in who God has called you to be and the name He has given you. You are placed by divine purpose, and your identity and possessions hold more significance than you can imagine.
May you walk boldly in your God given identity,
Because You Deserve to Live a Great Life.
